For developers
PetCare Atlas runs a free, read-only Model Context Protocol server. An AI assistant can use it to find UK vets and pet-care providers, and to see what practices and online retailers charge. It needs no account and no key.
Endpoint
https://petcareatlas.co.uk/mcpStreamable HTTP transport, stateless. Send JSON-RPC 2.0 with POST and every reply comes back as JSON. There is no session and no event stream, so GET returns 405. Protocol versions 2025-06-18, 2025-03-26 and 2024-11-05 are accepted.
curl -s https://petcareatlas.co.uk/mcp \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-H 'Accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call",
"params":{"name":"procedure_prices","arguments":{"procedure":"consultation"}}}'ChatGPT plugins connect to https://petcareatlas.co.uk/mcp/chatgpt, the same server without medicine_prices, because OpenAI’s plugin rules do not allow links to buy prescription medicines.
Tools
All four are read-only and return only what the public site shows.
find_providers
Find UK vet practices, vet hospitals, specialists and accredited practitioners (physiotherapists, hydrotherapists, behaviourists and others) near a place, nearest first. An emergency search starts with a fixed safety line and lists RCVS-accredited emergency service clinics and the nearest vets. Returns each listing's name, id, type, town, postcode, distance, phone, accreditations and a link to its page. The place is turned into coordinates by postcodes.io, a public UK postcode service; nothing else leaves PetCare Atlas. Listings come from public professional registers. Nobody pays to be listed or ranked. No clinical advice.
place(required): A UK postcode, postcode district or town, e.g. "HP11 2LP", "BS1" or "Bristol".type: Only this kind of provider. One of: general_practice, vet_hospital, referral_hospital, specialist_practice, mobile_vet, pet_ambulance, physiotherapist, hydrotherapist, hydrotherapy_centre, rehabilitation_centre, osteopath, chiropractor, massage_therapist, acupuncturist, behaviourist, trainer, nutritionist, end_of_lifecare: Only providers that list services in this area of care. Many practices list none, so this can miss practices that offer it.One of: exotic-wildlife, emergency-critical-care, musculoskeletal, neurology, oncology, cardiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, dentistry, internal-medicine, diagnostic-imaging, behaviour, rehabilitation, pain-management, geriatrics, nutrition, reproduction, anaesthesia, performance, livestockname: Part of the provider's name, e.g. "Vets Now".emergency: True for a search for urgent care. The result then starts with a fixed safety line and lists emergency service clinics and the nearest vets.radius_km: How far to look. Default 25.limit: How many to return. Default 10, at most 20.
provider_details
One PetCare Atlas listing in full: address, phone, website, accreditations, services, who owns the practice when Companies House records show it, and the prices the practice publishes, each with its source and the date it was read. No clinical advice.
id(required): The id of a PetCare Atlas listing, as returned in search results, e.g. "vets-now-high-wycombe".
procedure_prices
What UK vet practices publish for a common procedure, such as a consultation, vaccination, neutering, dental work, X-ray, blood test or euthanasia. Gives the middle half of published prices, how many practices publish one, and when they were read, or a researched guide range where too few publish. A guide to help an owner plan. It is not a quote.
procedure(required): The procedure in plain words, e.g. "dog spay", "consultation", "booster vaccination".place: Optional UK town or area, to link its local price comparison page if there is one.
medicine_prices
What UK online retailers accredited by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate charge for a named veterinary medicine, pack by pack, with a link to each retailer and the date the price was read. Search by the medicine's name, e.g. "Bravecto" or "Apoquel 16 mg". Within a pack, retailers are listed by what the owner pays. Says when a medicine needs a vet's prescription. Does not suggest medicines or doses.
name(required): The medicine's name as it appears on the pack or prescription.
What it will not do
It gives no clinical advice. It does not diagnose, triage, or suggest a treatment, medicine or dose. When a search is marked as an emergency, the answer always starts with the same sentence, written into the code: “If your pet is in danger now, phone the nearest vet.” PetCare Atlas does not hold opening hours.
Results come nearest first or by name. Nobody pays to be listed or ranked. Ownership is stated only when Companies House records show it. Prices are dated, and they are a guide to help an owner plan.
Limits and data
Each caller can make 120 requests a minute. Searches return at most 20 results. The server logs which tool was called and whether it answered. It does not log the question, the place or the caller’s address. Places are turned into coordinates with postcodes.io.
Listings come from public professional registers and Companies House. Procedure prices come from the price lists practices publish. Medicine prices come from online retailers accredited by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate. The United Kingdom only.
Using the server means accepting the terms of use, including that the directory is not copied in bulk. The privacy page covers the rest. Questions to [email protected].
